The design of the Smart CURING CONTROLS (COMPUTERS) serie VK 981 ® has been based on long experience in curing tobacco grown in different areas, with various climatic, soil and growing conditions. VK 981 is as simple to use as possible, giving to the user almost unlimited capabilities to cure easily and efficiently his tobacco.
VK 981 ® controls ( curing computers ) are made with microcontroller’s latest technology, equipped with all necessary safety devices and software to ensure it’s safe operation under difficult conditions.
All data stored are safely guarded for many years.
VK 981 series includes:
–VK 981(A) The classical Smart control with wet bulb sensor best seller since 1996.
–VK 981(RH) The latest Smart control with dry relative humidity -wet bulb sensor with all curing options of the latest technology.
–RH% interface to retrofit Wet bulb (with wet wick) sensors to dry Relative humidity sensors.
All Smart controls are designed so they can control tobacco curing barns in the most efficient way firing either Gas or Liquid fuels or solid fuels (biomass).
VK 981® controls are controlling :
-The Dry Bulb Temperature
-The Wet Bulb Temperature with a wet wick sensor and or
-The Relative humidity with a dry humidity sensor
-The Rate of Temperature Increase and Humidity decrease
-The dT (Temperature Difference) of the air between the Lower and Upper tobacco tiers in the barn.
A sophisticated software with selected data from thousands of fine cures in different areas around the world, is continuously refining operator’s orders, according to the rate of change of the several curing parameters, to ensure the optimum curing performance.
VK 981 ® controls can operate in 3 different ways :
IN CURING PHASES : The user selects only the desired CURING PHASE and the Computer advances the phase AUTOMATICALLY : The Computer advances the whole curing automatically MANUALLY : The user sets the desired temperature and humidity limits as he does with the classical controls.
It is well known to experienced barn operators that different kind of tobacco (underipe, overipe, underfertilised, overfertilised, tobacco lucking microelements, grown under unfavorable climatic conditions, cool weather, drought etc.) may need quite different curing techniques to cure acceptably. Many times it is hard to predict how well some tobacco leaves will color wilt and dry.
VK 981 ® series controls are what we call “smart controls".
By checking continuously the rate of the curing parameters changes as curing process advances in the barn, the control can understand what kind of tobacco is loaded in the barn and how this tobacco reacts in curing ( how easy , at what temperature it releases moisture , how much & how fast moisture is released through the cells) and uses its rate of evaporation measurement and memory stored data to refine the curing schedule to ensure the most efficient and successful cure.
VK 981 ® curing controls not only ensure barn’s operator that his crop will be cured in the best possible way with the lowest possible energy consumption, but also gives him a better life standard by taking out of him all the guesswork and letting him enjoy quiet nights.
Ventobacco ® Smart tobacco curing controls are precisely controlling Heat & Humidity in a tobacco curing barn.
-Heat is controlled through one main Dry Bulb sensor and a Δ.Τ.sensor( second D.B sensor ).
Main controlling Dry bulb sensor is usually placed at the hottest air in the barn (lower when upflow barns) and the other (ΔΤ) sensor is placed at the cooler (upper) part of the barn . ( on the downflow barns sensors are opposite)
-Humidity is controlled through a Humidity dry sensor or through a Wet bulb sensor or both.( placed at the upper part of the barn). ( on the downflow barns sensors are opposite)
The desired rate of DB temperature advance ( in order to be smooth) is controlled through the DB sensor , the DB temperature advance control & the ΔΤ sensor .
The desired rate of Humidity decrease ( in order to be smooth) is controlled through the humidity sensor or through the Wet bulb sensor with the aid of control’s software which relates humidity levels to the DB temperature levels throughout the whole cure .

Manually like any classical curing control , where operator changes temperature& humidity settings whenever he wants , or Semiautomatically where operator changes only the curing phases and the control advances the phase supported by it’s extra devices & software ,or Automatically where the control advances the whole cure automatically following the programmed curing schedule fine tuning it with the support of the extra devices and it’s software. The simple type (dummy) curing controls will advance curing according to schedule ( either manually or automatically) without relating this advance to leaf’s condition & behavior during curing ( temperature areas where leaf releases moisture freely and risks to turn brown if heat supply is not limited or it is increased faster than ideally) .
Ventobacco® Smart controls are equipped with ΔΤ supporting device which makes them
“smart” making them capable of “understanding ” the leaf condition , avoiding sudden temperature & humidity changes , measuring and controlling the rate of water evaporation from the leaves
( which is different according to leaf position, growing conditions etc.) in order to follow an ideal rate of DB temperature increase to ensure safe water evaporation( avoiding breaking leaf cell) during the critical curing stages.
-ΔΤ control measures and controls the DB temp. difference between the lower and upper tobacco in the barn ( created by water evaporating from the leaves) through the two D.B . sensors ( one at the hottest part of the barn and the other on the coolest) and
